Specifying Bacopa Monnieri Extract

A UV bacoside figure reads higher than an HPLC figure on the same powder, so compare grades only within one method. The name brahmi is also used for Centella asiatica, a different plant; HPTLC identity rules it out.

Questions about Bacopa Monnieri Extract

What is the botanical source of Bacopa Monnieri Extract?

Bacopa Monnieri Extract is derived from the whole herb (aerial parts) of Bacopa monnieri, known in Ayurveda as brahmi.

What standardisation levels are available?

Bacopa Monnieri Extract can be supplied standardised to bacosides, including commonly requested 20%, 40% and 50% grades, subject to the agreed analytical method and availability.

Why do UV and HPLC bacoside results differ?

A UV assay measures the total bacoside fraction and gives a higher figure, while HPLC quantifies named compounds such as bacoside A and gives a lower one. The percentage and the method should be specified together, and grades compared only on the same method.

How is the botanical identity confirmed?

The name brahmi is also used for Centella asiatica, a different plant standardised to different markers. Identity is confirmed by TLC or HPTLC against a Bacopa monnieri reference, so one cannot be supplied in place of the other.

Can you supply Bacopa Monnieri Extract to an existing specification?

Yes. Buyers can provide their required bacoside level, analytical method, physical parameters, contaminant limits and documentation requirements for review before quotation.
